The AMA has congratulated the National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission on its final report launched in Canberra today by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
AMA Federal President, Dr Andrew Pesce, commended the report saying it sets some ‘very, very’ ambitious targets.

Victorian Premier John Brumby says he would not be prepared to hand over control of the state’s health system to the Federal Government.
The National Health and Hospitals Reform Commission report released today recommends the Commonwealth take over responsibility for all primary health care outside of hospitals and fund outpatient services in hospitals.

HOSPITAL errors claim the lives of 4550 Australians a year, according to a report to the Government that urges sweeping reforms to the health system.

Every Australian would be able to see their medical records online and keep a personalised “health diary” under massive reforms promising better care and big taxpayer savings. GPs would be forced to link patient records to a national database or miss out on lucrative Medicare payments.
