‘One fit for all’ costs Medibank $60m

brandMEDIBANK Private will spend $60 million on IT projects this financial year as it integrates new businesses into the fold and prepares to finally bid adieu to 35-year-old systems.

Australia’s largest health insurer is working to fit in the platforms Australian Health Management and Health Services Australia use after buying both companies earlier in the year.

Medibank has halved the number of servers using VMware virtualisation technology as it prepares to trim its data centres.

One key post-acquisition task for Medibank chief information officer Terry Snyders is to consolidate the AHM and HSA technology and communications suppliers so they are in sync with those of Medibank.

This could hit Optus hard, as it supplies both AHM and HSA.

Medibank is a big Telstra shop, with a five-year, $70m managed network services deal that includes mobile, voice and contact centre.
